تا پھر نہ انتظار میں نیند آئے عمر بھر
(Ta phir na intezaar mein neend aaye umr bhar)

آنے کا عہد کر گئے آئے جو خواب میں
(Aanay ka ahd kar gaye, aaye jo khwaab mein)

قاصد کے آتے آتے خط اک اور لکھ رکھوں
(Qaasid ke aatay aatay khat aik aur likh rakhun)

میں جانتا ہوں جو وہ لکھیں گے جواب میں
(Main jaanta hoon jo woh likhain ge jawaab mein)

Translation:
So that I may spend my lifetime awake in longing,
You vowed to come, even if only within a dream.

Before the messenger has a chance to arrive, I’ll write another letter,
For I already know what your reply will say.
