An Ode to Bahadur Shah Zafar

کانٹوں کو مت نکال چمن سے او باغباں
یہ بھی گلوں کے ساتھ پلے ہیں بہار میں
Kaanton ko mat nikaal chaman se o baaghban
Yeh bhi gulon ke saath play hain bahaar mein

بلبل کو باغباں سے نہ صیاد سے گلہ
قسمت میں قید لکھی تھی فصل بہار میں
Bulbul ko baaghban se na sayaad se gila
Qismat mein qaid likhi thi fasl-e-bahaar mein

Translation:
Do not remove the thorns from the garden, O gardener,
For they too grow alongside the flowers in the spring.

The nightingale has no complaint with the gardener or the hunter,
For its fate was written to be confined in the season of spring.
