An Ode to Sahir Ludhianvi

لے دے کے اپنے پاس فقط اک نظر تو ہے
(Le de ke apne paas faqat ek nazar to hai)

کیوں دیکھیں زندگی کو کسی کی نظر سے ہم
(Kyoon dekhein zindagi ko kisi ki nazar se hum)

مانا کہ اس زمیں کو نہ گلزار کر سکے
(Maana ke is zameen ko na gulzaar kar sake)

کچھ خار کم تو کر گئے گزرے جد
(Kuch khaar kam to kar gaye guzre jidhar se hum)

Translation:
All we truly possess is our own way of seeing,
So why view life through someone else’s eyes?

I admit, we may not have turned this earth into a garden,
But wherever we passed, we did remove at least a few thorns.
