Poetry
An Ode to Haider Ali Aatish
Koocha-e-dilbar mein main, bulbul chaman mein mast hai
Har koi yaan apne apne pairahan mein mast hai
Wehshat-e-Majnuun-o-Aatish mein hai bas itna hi farq
Koi ban mein mast hai, koi watan mein mast hai
Translation: In the beloved’s street, I am lost in bliss; the nightingale is intoxicated in the garden. Everyone here is absorbed in their own world, in their own attire. There is only this much difference between the madness of Majnun and Aatish: One is lost in the wilderness, while the other is lost in his homeland.
